I Tried Bulletproof Coffee. Here's What Happened.

As you've probably guessed by now, I loooove coffee. It's essentially my lifeblood - the reason I wake up in the morning. So, when I heard about the new "Bulletproof Coffee" trend, I had to try it immediately.

 

But before I get into whether or not it made me *tick*, let me break down what this drink is all about. There are three components to Bulletproof coffee:

  1. Certified clean coffee beans

  2. Grass-fed unsalted butter 

  3. Brain Octain oil (an extract from coconut oil)

 

Dave Asprey, the man behind the madness, claims that Bulletproof coffee impacts your energy levels and overall cognitive function in a way that regular coffee just can't. According to Asprey, butter has "all the benefits of healthy milk fat with none of the damaging denatured casein proteins found in cream." Plus, the high fat content helps keep you full for longer (adios, 11:00 A.M. hanger pains)....

 

So, I gave it a shot. I purchased the three ingredients online and at Whole Foods. For my first cup, I used 1 cup of coffee, 2 tablespoons of unsalted butter and 1 teaspoon of the oil. Because Asprey recommends you try your first cup sans breakfast, I did just that. (This is a big deal, okay? Girls gotta eat.)

 

I'll admit, at first I was in denial, but... Bulletproof coffee is actually a game changer. Usually I start to feel foggy-headed and fidgety during the hour leading up to lunch. This time, however, I felt alert, focused and motivated for the entire day. I didn't even feel the need to reach for my usual 4 P.M. sugary treat! Plus, this was the only caffeinated beverage I had all day. That's saying something.
